here’s my belated opinion about lana del rey.

i had a conversation over the weekend with a friend asking me if i have heard her music, to which i replied that i had not. he asked why and i explained that if there’s enough controversy about something, i try to stay out of it because talking about things gives it power, keeps it around longer than it should, and i don’t care. but i heard her snl performance this morning and this is what i’ve gathered: she’s not horrible. she’s not. she’s got a mediocre voice, and everything is over-produced, sure, but we’re buying entertainment, not talent. she’s not as weird or unique as bjork, she’s not as catchy or vibrant as lady gaga. she’s like the person who brings the tray of assembled and inedible meats and cheeses to a potluck where everyone else brought their slaved-over meals.

Filed under this has been a post about people i will never invite to a potluck
